The smart train supports multiple screen-free and connected play and learn modes. To start with, the train can be controlled screen-free using colored tiles by placing them into slots along the intelino track. Smart train’s color sensors are designed to continuously scan the track and detect these tiles as the train drives around the track. These color-based commands serve as an intuitive, tactile coding interface and are designed to familiarize children with basic programming concepts. Kids can use the color tiles to speed the train up or slow it down, get it to steer left or right at track junctions, make it change its movement direction or stop, drop off the attached wagon and more. There are 16 commands that work right out of the box.
The interactive fun and control options extend further with the intelino mobile app (available on iOS and Android). Kids get to master their driving skills in Autopilot and Manual drive modes and race trains around the tracks at top speeds of up to 3.3 ft/sec (100 cm/sec). The Editor allows to create custom color-based commands and download them wirelessly to the train. And intelino mixed-reality games offer app-based challenges combined with physical train play.
As children familiarize with the smart train, they are ready to start advancing their programming skills using the intelino extension for Scratch 3.0. The Scratch extension enables full control of the train's movement, navigation, sensors, lights and more through block-based programming. It allows to interactively program two smart trains. Beyond Scratch, older kids and adults can use the intelino Python library which supports multi-train programming and has an extensive API. With so many modes and features the smart train has to offer, the possibilities for creative play and progressive learning are truly limitless.
